Longtime Associated Press sports writer Teresa Walker showed up for her 30th Tennessee Titans training camp on July 28 and announced on social media it would be her last.
Walker said she would retire in early 2027 after nearly 40 years as a journalist in Tennessee. She started working for the AP in 1989 from its Nashville office.
"I think I'm ready to rest a bit," Walker told The Tennessean. "I want to enjoy some life; I mean we love what we do, but there's a lot of stuff we don't do because we're busy doing what we do. I'm ready for some of that."

After graduating from the University of Tennessee, Walker worked for the Maryville Daily Times in her hometown for two and a half years before she was hired by the AP.
"This is my first life change in 37 years," Walker said. "I walked through the doors at 1200 Broadway to go to the AP office in December of '89, and I've been writing sports for AP ever since."
Walker will cover the 2026 Titans' season before she retires. That means she may end her career when the Titans play their final regular season game at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Jan. 3. Depending on how the Titans' season goes and if they make the playoffs, Walker will stay on beyond that.
Walker also plans to work part-time for the AP after she retires.
In 2015, Walker became the first female to win Tennessee Sports Writer of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. She won the award again four times after that.
She also served two terms as president of the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Walker said she and her husband Russ have already started planning for her retirement.
"We've been married 30 years in August, and I've always kidded that I will really find out how much we love each other when I retire because we'll actually be around each other and I'm not traveling for work," she said.
