The Big Bash League is all set to be played on Indian soil for the first time in history, as talks are ongoing between Cricket Australia and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
In February this year, SEN Cricket reported that two Cricket Australia representatives, head of business operations Phil Rigby and head of competition development and strategy Margot Harley, visited India to hold meetings and check the feasibility of holding a BBL 16 match in Chennai.
BBL, who are planning an expansion of the league, are considering adding two more franchises and are eager to rope in Indian owners for the teams. Hosting BBL in India is part of their strategy to attract investment from India.

According to a report from the Indian Express, a CA delegation have been in talks with Indian representatives for the past few weeks and they were also present at Chepauk on Monday for CSK's final IPL 2026 home game against SRH.
BCCI president Mithun Manhas was also in attendance in Chennai, who met the CA delegation and also watched CSK face SRH.
While the CA refused to confirm any major delegation, a representative told IE, "We are not able to confirm anything. We are exploring the potential of Chennai in partnership with the Australian Government to deepen the India-Australia relationship. Nothing confirmed as yet and we are working closely with our friends in BCCI."
In all likelihood, the BBL 2026-27 season opener will take place at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
There is no confirmation on when exactly the 16th season of Australia's premier T20 competition will commence; traditionally, the BBL season starts in the final week of December and runs until the end of January.
As of now, fixtures have not been confirmed, however, as per norms, the defending champions, Perth Scorchers, will be one of the two teams that will travel to India for the opener.
