The Carolina Hurricanes thought they won.
It was overtime in Game 2 against the Ottawa Senators, and after a long OT period, the puck found the back of the net. The party was on.
But then wait. The linesmen went to the monitor. There was a replay review.
And after the review, the goal was overturned.

Why was Hurricanes' OT goal overturned?
They were called for being offsides.
It was close, but there was "not full possession or control" of the puck as the blue line was broken into the zone by Carolina.
But then after the overturn, there was a second ruling: penalty shot.
How did the penalty shot happen?
The penalty shot happened after the offside call, which makes it extra confusing.
But because offside wasn't called live, the missed penalty shot ruling instead became live and went into action.
It was a wild sequence, one that was hard even for the announcers to explain.
But moments after Carolina had their goal taken off the board, Jordan Martinook had a penalty shot to try and win it.
Linus Ullmark saved it, though, and the game continued.
