England didn't pick Trent Alexander-Arnold in its initial 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, but Thomas Tuchel then had a second chance.
When news emerged that Tino Livramento wouldn't be available, Tuchel could've called Trent up to take over as an option at right back.
Instead, Trevoh Chalobah was the player who got the call-up. Alexander-Arnold missed out, again.
The former Liverpool man now plays at Real Madrid, but he didn't get chosen, and it has to be a disappointment.

Why isn't Trent at the World Cup?
The general feeling is simply that Tuchel doesn't believe Trent fits the general profile he likes from his right backs.
Alexander-Arnold is one of the most gifted offensive minds from a fullback in the modern game, but occasionally, his defensive work can feel slightly lacking.
Tuchel evidently opted for players with more sturdy defensive capabilities.

This is coming off the back of Alexander-Arnold's first season at Real Madrid, and he dealt with injuries throughout the campaign.
Trent is still just 27, and he already has 34 caps for England, but he'll have to wait if he hopes to someday add to that total with the Three Lions.
