Elliot Anderson has proven to be one of the key cogs in England's midfield during its run to the World Cup semifinal. A combative and technically gifted midfielder capable of making interventions on both ends of the pitch, the newly minted Manchester City standout has been a favorite of Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.
However, he'll have to proceed with caution during the latter portion of the World Cup semifinal and beyond.

In the 37th minute, Anderson was carded. He got his money's worth for the foul, cutting Messi down after the Argentine playmaker danced past two of his teammates.
Anderson had no complaints about the booking, returning to his post shortly after the referee flaunted the canary apparatus. A brief fracas broke out between Argentine and England players, with some of Messi's teammates deeming that Anderson's tackle was excessive.
Nevertheless, cooler heads prevailed, with Anderson being the first name written in referee Ismail Elfath's book.
What yellow card means for Elliot Anderson's World Cup
As long as Anderson doesn't receive a second booking against Argentina, he'll be good to go for the final if England advances.
Anderson will have to mind his aggression and attempt to avoid Elfath's pad a second time. If Elfath were to brandish another card at him, the 23-year-old would be sent to the showers, receiving a red card for two yellow card offenses. That would leave Tuchel's side with nine outfield players instead of the usual 10. It would also mean Anderson — barring intervention from the U.K. government — would be suspended for the final should England advance.
Anderson and Tuchel won't want that, so the likelihood is that the Manchester City man will be as cautious as possible when he is approaching Argentine players. If he does prove to be too reckless, Tuchel could pull him for another midfielder before Elfath can issue him a second yellow.
