Why Dolphins GM Chris Grier is so bullish on first-round draft pick Kenneth Grant

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier opened up about the selection of first-round pick Kenneth Grant of Michigan.

Here are some things we heard from Grier:

• We are very excited to get him there. He is one of the players we had targeted. There are a number of players and he was one of them.

• We think he's a tremendous player and he's going to be a potential impact player for us. Very talented. Made of the right stuff.

• We don't view him as just a run-stopper. We think he has the ability to push the pocket in the middle. We think he has tremendous work ethic and upside to do that.

• We're not concerned about the weight and neither is he. We did a lot of background work. And we spoke with people at Michigan.
• Owner Stephen Ross played the Michigan fight song in the draft room.
• We did take a couple of calls and did listen to people.
• Michigan has been a hard team to run the ball on.
• The kid just turned 21 years old and there is a huge upside.

• We have nine picks still. There is the draft and free agency.
• There is a deeper group of cornerbacks.
• For a big guy, he has twitch and explosion. We don't want to compare him to Dexter Lawrence or Vita Vea just yet.
