The Indianapolis Colts made a change on the back end of the quarterback depth chart on Monday.
The team announced that they signed veteran Easton Stick and released Seth Henigan as the corresponding move.
So what prompted the Colts to make this roster decision? Shane Steichen weighed in after Monday's practice.
"Just brought him in to get him up to speed with everything, but good competitor, really smart, has some familiarity with the offense," Steichen said. "Obviously, some things have changed, but get him in here, get him up to speed, and see where it goes. But I like the athlete, I like the player."
Stick was a fifth-round pick in 2019 out of North Dakota State by the LA Chargers. He has appeared in six career games, making four starts. Stick has completed 64% of his 175 passes for 1,133 yards with three touchdowns to one interception.
He and Steichen were together for two seasons in LA. After remaining with the Chargers into the 2024 season, Stick joined the Atlanta Falcons this past season.
Attempting to read between the lines, it does sound like adding Stick's experience to the quarterback room was a key factor in the decision to sign him.
