Cheboygan-area best boys sports team candidates

Cheboygan Basketball – What a memorable season it was for the Chiefs, who won a first district championship since 2015 and finished 18-7 overall. Carson Kiefer, Andrew Kiefer, Gavin Smith, Landon Gahn and Nolan Schley were all pivotal players in this Cheboygan squad.

Inland Lakes Football – The Bulldogs recorded a perfect 9-0 regular season and won a fifth consecutive Ski Valley Conference crown. Andre Bradford, Ty Kolly, Landon Fenstermaker and Avery Enos were among the I-L stars.

Mackinaw City Baseball – The Comets finished 14-8 overall and earned a runner-up finish in the Northern Lakes Conference. Key Mackinaw City players included Braylon Currie, Tyler Hingston, Ben Strittmatter and Knox Wilson.

Onaway Baseball – One of the more improved teams in the area were the Cardinals, who picked up a pre-district victory before falling to Hillman in the final. Brody George, Casey Kindt, and Zach Schmoldt had solid campaigns for the Cardinals.

Pellston Basketball – After multiple disappointing campaigns, the Hornets earned nine wins and were competitive in most of the games they played during coach Jared Anderon’s debut season. Josh Grondin and Connor Keller were top players for Pellston.

NMCA Basketball – The Eagles delivered a history-making campaign by winning the program’s first-ever district title, then reached the regional final against Pickford. NMCA, which finished 17-8, was led by the duo of Joshua Ferraiuolo and Jeremiah Tucker.
