The latest NFL mock draft from CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli has the Cincinnati Bengals taking Marshall University Thundering Herd edge Mike Green with the 17th pick of next Thursday's first round.
"With or without Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals need additional help in the pass rush, and they get it with Green," Fornelli wrote. "There are parts of his game that need to be ironed out, but getting after the QB isn't one of them."
Green is one of five players who make sense for the Bengals at No. 17, according to The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway.
What to know about the 6-foot-3, 251-pound Green, who played one season at Virginia and the past two seasons at Marshall:
Green's sack total led the FBS / Division I-A. Green's TFL total led the Sun Belt conference. He also had a team-high three forced fumbles.
Green started one of the 13 games in which he played in his first season at Marshall.
Last season, he was named second-team Associated Press All-American and Sun Belt conference Defensive Player of the Year, as well as first-team all-Sun Belt.
Green was a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end.
"High-energy pass rusher with productivity and a method of play that should translate to the next level," NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote. "Green displays a natural and instinctive rush, utilizing loose hips and a series of moves and counters that can open doors with force or finesse."
Green told reporters in February at the NFL combine that he also was accused of sexual assault in high school, but was never charged.
After Green played in six games as a reserve for the Cavaliers in 2021, UVA head coach Tony Elliott said Green was "no longer active" with the team; Green wasn't seen after fall camp, per NFL.com.
Listed among weaknesses in his NFL.com draft profile: "Departure from Virginia program in 2022 must be vetted."
There reportedly were 29 NFL teams represented at Marshall's pro day, including the Bengals.
Green "jumped on the radar with an outstanding performance against Ohio State," according to NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah.
Many draft experts agree that Green also impressed at the Reese's Senior Bowl in order to improve his stock.
