Who has scored fastest ODI century vs India?

Rahmanullah Gurbaz announced himself against India in the most explosive fashion possible at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The Afghanistan wicket-keeper batter reached his 100 off just 48 balls, registering his ninth ODI century and the fastest ever produced by an Afghanistan batter in the format.

Gurbaz plundered eight fours and eight sixes on his way to 102 off 51 balls at a strike rate of 200 before Nitish Kumar Reddy ended the innings with a stunning inswinging yorker that crashed into the base of the middle stump and sent the wicketkeeper's stumps flying.

In doing so, Gurbaz placed himself second on the all-time list of fastest ODI centuries against India. Only Shahid Afridi, who reached the landmark in 45 balls for Pakistan in Kanpur in 2005, has scored an ODI century against India more quickly than the Afghanistan opener.

Overall fastest ODI centuries

The overall record for fastest century in ODI history belongs to AB de Villiers of South Africa, who reached three figures off just 31 balls against the West Indies in Johannesburg in January 2015, a mark that remains one of the most extraordinary individual ODI performances ever produced.

Gurbaz's 48-ball century puts him in the elite company of those who have scored the quickest hundreds in the 50-over game. His knock equals Sanath Jayasuriya's 48-ball century for Sri Lanka against Pakistan in Singapore in 1996, one of the most celebrated powerplay demolitions in ODI history.

The innings placed Gurbaz alongside some of the most destructive batters in ODI history. It is the joint eighth-fastest century of all time, level with Jayasuriya's effort from 1996, and it underlines Afghanistan's remarkable evolution as a white-ball cricketing force over the past decade, thanks to their growing talent pool.
