The United States is one step away from a third straight trip to the World Baseball Classic championship game.

The U.S. rode two-hit performances from Brice Turang and Pete Crow-Armstrong to take down Canada, 5-3, in the quarterfinals on Friday night at Daikin Park in Houston.

Logan Webb earned the win, tossing 4⅔ scoreless innings, scattering four hits, walking one and striking out five.

With the victory, the United States will now take on the Dominican Republic in the semifinals at 8 p.m. on Sunday night at loanDepot Park in Miami. The game will be broadcast on FS1.

The United States will roll out National League Cy Young winner Paul Skenes for the semifinals, while the D.R. is expected to turn to Luis Severino.

On Friday night, the United States jumped out to a 5-0 lead, with Kyle Schwarber, Alex Bregman, Turang and Crow-Armstrong all driving in runs. Canada cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a two-run home run from Bo Naylor, but could not inflict any further damage.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Canada's first two batters reached but David Bednar induced a pop-up against Josh Naylor and struck out Tyler O'Neill and Owen Caissie in back-to-back at-bats to escape the jam. That was the last threat from Canada in the game.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic rolled to a 10-0 win over Korea in seven innings earlier on Friday, punctuated by a game-ending three-run home run from the Yankees' Austin Wells.

It will be a highly-anticipated matchup in the semifinals after the United States needed to sweat out their advancement through pool play and the Dominican Republic finished undefeated in Pool D.

After a pair of convincing victories over Brazil and the Great Britain in Pool B action, the U.S. edged Mexico, 5-3, but suffered a stunning 8-6 loss to Italy on Tuesday.

That left the door open for the U.S. to be eliminated, but Italy throttled Mexico, 9-1, in the final game of Pool B play to help them punch their ticket to the elimination round.
