Lionel Messi and Argentina are alive in the 2026 World Cup.
The defending champions take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 11 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
La Albiceleste got here by beating Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16. The comeback win was under criticism because officials disallowed an Egypt goal that would have put Egypt up 2-0.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan did not mince words in criticizing the officiating of the match, saying The Pharaohs "suffered injustice." The critical moment came in the 58th minute, when Egypt's Mostafa Zico buried a shot in the net. The play went to video review and officials ruled Argentina's Lisandro Martínez was fouled by Marawan Attia, which led to the score.
For their part, Switzerland beat Colombia in penalty kicks 4-3 after neither team scored for all of regulation and extra time. Their leading scorer, Johan Manzambi, did not play in the match due to injury.
