The Chargers boast a talented roster heading into the 2026 season. While that is a good thing, it also means that the coaching staff will have to make some tough decisions when they construct their 53-man roster.
Several players from last season's roster will compete to make the cut when training camp begins this month.
Here are four on the roster bubble:
Despite entering his 12th season, Dupree's roster spot is not guaranteed. With Tuli Tuipulotu, Khalil Mack, and first-round pick Akheem Mesidor as locks, Dupree will be forced to compete with Kyle Kennard and undrafted rookie Nadame Tucker to remain a Charger.
Matlock's two-way versatility is appealing, but he faces tough competition to retain his niche as a fullback and rotational defensive tackle on the active roster, especially after the signing of FB Alec Ingold, who fits Mike McDaniel's offense.
Though he has been the primary kick and punt returner for the last three years, he is fighting to prove he offers more than just special teams value. Other receivers like Dalevon Campbell have been flashing, making Davis's return spot less secure. Additionally, Davis has struggled to stay healthy, so he will have to show he can stay on the field.
Despite his reunion with Jim Harbaugh as a 2024 third-round pick out of Michigan, Colson's pro career has been completely derailed by setbacks. To secure a spot on the active 53-man roster, he must prove he is fully healthy, recapture his college form, and carve out a role on special teams.

FB/DT Scott Matlock

WR Derius Davis

LB Junior Colson
