White Sox sign 212 home run outfielder who was recently DFA'd by Yankees originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Chicago White Sox made a notable roster move on Monday afternoon.
According to FanSided's Robert Murray, the AL Central club has signed veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk to a Major League deal.
Grichuk, 34, elected free agency a few days ago after the New York Yankeesdesignated him for assignment. The right-handed hitter signed a minor league contract with the Yankees during spring training but did not produce at the plate.
In 16 games (33 plate appearances) with the Yankees, Grichuk hit .194/.212/.323 with no home runs and four doubles. He also struck out 10 times compared to just one walk.
The White Sox will become his eighth team and the sixth in the past three seasons.
It wasn't that long ago that Grichuk was an above-average everyday player. He hit 12 home runs and managed 20 doubles with a 139 OPS+ in 106 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024.

Like New York, Chicago could see a lane to deploy Grichuk against left-handed starters and in pinch hit opportunites.
However, the White Sox already have Austin Hays and Sam Antonacci as players receiving regular reps in left field, so playing time may be limited.
