The 2026 White Marlin Open is just a few months away, set for Aug. 3-8 later this summer. And the tournament recently announced some new additions to this year's iteration of the world's largest billfish tournament.
Whether it be the already announced additional day of the tournament, new rules and regulations, and new categories to compete, there will be plenty to look out for at the 53rd annual White Marlin Open.
Here are some new elements to this year's White Marlin Open that tournament organizers announced last week:
The White Marlin Open announced recently that the tournament would be adding an additional sixth day of potential fishing after typically only allowing five days. Boats can now fish in three out of the six days, with the extra day allowing competitors to be flexible when planning around weather and fishing conditions.
The tournament's annual "Marlin Fest" will allso be extended for a sixth day.
The tournament is also introducing a new Non-Sonar Division for boats that do not utilize omnidirectional sonar technology. "This division creates a level playing field for traditional anglers and offers an exciting new competitive category within the tournament," the tournament said in a statement.
Also debuting at the 2026 edition of the White Marlin Open is a Daily Big Fish Charity Added Entry Level category. It gives the anglers the chance to compete for daily prizes while supporting charities. Proceeds will benefit Coastal Hospice, Seaside Athletic Center and Believe in Tomorrow.
The White Marlin Open's Small Boat Division will now include boats 40 feet and under, broadening access and encouraging participation from a wider range of vessels.
