Every World Cup ends the same.
Joy for one team, heartbreak for the others. After all, moral victories only mean so much and they don't come with a trophy.
The 2026 tournament came with an expanded bracket, bringing more of the world together on, well, the world stage. That means there will be 47 heartbroken teams this year as one celebrates a historic achievement. So far, 40 teams have boarded a flight back home, leaving eight that will try to extend this summer vacation for at least a few more days.
With the final looming on July 19, the summer's marquee event is winding down – even if the on-field action is heating up.
Here are the teams that have been eliminated so far as well as the remaining bracket:
