With the Cincinnati Reds sitting at 32-35 and in last place in the NL Central, 9.5 games back of first place with a 2-13 record against division opponents, they are trending toward being sellers at the trade deadline (as that is their natural inclination anyway).

Much of the struggle hasn’t been entirely within their control. Multiple of their best players have suffered injuries, namely Hunter Greene and Elly De La Cruz. They are currently down three key bullpen pieces in Graham Ashcraft, Pierce Johnson and Emilio Pagan.

Amid those injuries, the offense has sputtered, resulting in a 2-7 record so far in June.

So, if the Reds are to sell at the deadline, who would be candidates to be offloaded? Reds In Four posted his list on Twitter, breaking it down in terms of players who should be traded, who could possibly be traded and who should not be traded.

Have to move at the deadline
- Eugenio Suarez
- Nate Lowe
- Tyler Stephenson
- Brock Burke
- Caleb Ferguson

Can you move them at the deadline?
- Brady Singer
- Emilio Pagan?

People will call, I don’t think you should
- Nick Lodolo
- Hunter Greene
- Spencer Steer
- You know who

The two biggest names he said should be traded were Tyler Stephenson and Eugenio Suarez. Stephenson is a free agent after this season and wouldn’t be a major candidate for any type of extension, as he hasn’t exactly been an impact player for the Reds despite becoming an ABS challenge machine. Catcher Alfredo Duno is also tearing it up for the Dayton Dragons.

Suarez is in a similar spot, with a mutual option this offseason, and it would be surprising if the Reds picked up the $16 million option unless there is a sharp turnaround in his offensive production, given that he is currently hitting .211 with just five home runs.

One player Reds In Four questioned whether the Reds could move at the deadline was Brady Singer. He is a free agent after this season, like Stephenson. After struggling to start the season, Singer posted a quality start in the Reds' Game 3 loss to the San Diego Padres. He has given up home runs in bunches, but if he can find some consistency, Singer can be a valuable back-of-the-rotation piece for a contending team.

Reds In Four put both Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo in his “people will call, I don’t think you should” category, which I sort of disagree with. Some pointed out in response to his post that having two top-of-the-rotation arms be so injury-prone doesn’t seem to be wise roster management, which would make it sensible to move one of the arms. Lodolo would be the wiser choice, as he has one year of team control beyond this season before becoming a free agent ahead of the 2028 season. The emergence of Chase Burns makes it an easier decision to move on from Lodolo in July.

One bat that teams will call about who Reds In Four doesn’t think the Reds should consider trading is JJ Bleday. That makes a lot of sense when you consider whatever package the Reds could possibly get back in return for a player who could very well end up being a figurehead in the Cincinnati outfield going forward, as he has been an All-Star-caliber player through three and a half months.
