The 2026 FIFA World Cup is finally here.

The month-long tournament begins on Thursday afternoon, when host Mexico takes on South Africa in Mexico City. The opening day celebrations continue on Friday, as co-hosts Canada and the U.S. also play their first game.

International stars will be present in each of the three ceremonies, with Shakira and Burna Boy performing in Mexico on Thursday. In Toronto, the ceremony will feature Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara and Michael Bublé, while Katy Perry, LISA and Anitta will close out the last ceremony in Southern California.

What time is the World Cup opening ceremony today?​


The World Cup opening ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. CT, 90 minutes before the opening match kicks off at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

There will be three opening ceremonies, one for each host country.

Canada's will take place on Friday, June 12, at 12:30 p.m. in Toronto, and the United States' will be later in the day at 6:30 p.m. CT in Inglewood, California.
