The 2024-25 NBA season was a terrible one for the Phoenix Suns as they failed to even come close to their lofty expectations.
Phoenix entered the season expected to be a top team in the Western Conference thanks to their superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, along with having the league’s highest payroll.
Instead, the Suns finished the season 11th in the West standings with an abysmal 36-46 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Because of their struggles this season, the Suns are expected to make some major changes in the offseason, which have already started as they fired head coach Mike Budenholzer and promoted Brian Gregory to be their new general manager.

Phoenix is also expected to make some major changes to their roster as it is likely that they will move on from both Durant and Beal to rebuild around Booker for the future.
While the Suns will look to retool their roster this offseason, they may have a hard time doing so, especially with them not owning their first-round pick in the loaded 2025 NBA Draft, though they do own the 29th (Cleveland Cavaliers) and 52nd (Denver Nuggets) overall picks due to prior trades.
Of course, the Suns’ 2025 first-round pick belongs to the Houston Rockets due to Houston pulling off a trade with the Brooklyn Nets for the pick last offseason.

This is a great thing for the Rockets as they are guaranteed a lottery pick in the upcoming 2025 draft, giving them a chance to improve their roster even more after finishing second in the West this season.
They also have a 3.8% chance to land the first overall pick and win the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes in Monday night’s NBA Draft Lottery.
For the Suns, they will have to use their other two picks in the 2025 draft to add more young talent to their roster as they could enter a complete rebuild this summer, though it will not be the same as if they had kept their original 2025 pick.
