The Memphis Grizzlies' full-fledged rebuild is now officially underway.
It could be thought that the rebuild actually kicked off with the Desmond Bane trade to Orlando after the 2024-25 season, then moved forward when Jaren Jackson Jr. was dealt to Utah during the 2025-26 season. Ja Morant was the last piece of that core still on the roster, though he was the subject of consistent trade rumors for months before reportedly getting traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on June 29.
That trade clears the way for the Grizzlies to fully rebuild around a new core that includes Zach Edey, Cedric Coward and 2026 NBA Draft No. 3 overall pick Cam Boozer. The Grizzlies' roster now also includes Jerami Grant and Kris Murray, the two players that came back in the Morant trade.
Memphis is well over the NBA roster limit of 15, and it has 18 standard-contract players on its roster (after the Morant trade and once the Isaiah Stewart trade from Detroit goes through). That number doesn't include second-round pick Richie Saunders. It all means that changes are guaranteed before the start of next season, and at least some of them are likely to come soon.
Here's a look at where the roster stands after the Morant trade.
The guards on the roster are:
Saunders is a second-round pick who could potentially sign a two-way deal, although he was picked early in the round (No. 32) and that would be atypical for a player drafted there.
The forwards/wings on the roster are:
The Grizzlies announced earlier on June 29 that they had picked up team options for Jackson and Prosper. Caldwell-Pope had a player option for the 2026-27 season that he exercised.
The centers on the roster are:
Gibson signed a two-year deal with the Grizzlies toward the end of last season, but his contract is non-guaranteed for the 2026-27 season.
