The Minnesota Vikings found their footing late in the season by leaning on their defense in the closing weeks to end the season with a record of 9-8. The results showed that despite this team being on a rollercoaster, they can find their footing by doing the small things, and the results will follow.

One thing we always like to look at, apart from their record and performance, is where the Vikings land in the power rankings. Bleacher Report's early team power rankings for 2026 show where the Vikings land, and despite the season-ending success, they still are low within it.

Bleacher Report's way-too-early 2026 power rankings heading into the scouting combine and free agency have the Vikings ranked 21st. They remain behind the Green Bay Packers (11th), Detroit Lions (13th), and the Chicago Bears (7th).

Within the rankings, they discussed the Vikings' ranking, writing, "Quite simply, the Vikings organization made a massive blunder by not re-signing Sam Darnold and turning to JJ McCarthy as its starting quarterback. . .McCarthy could still develop into a quality starting quarterback. After all, he just turned 23. However, his rash of injuries and clear lack of comfort leading the offense so far don't make the current setup feel all that promising."

J.J. McCarthy is going to make or break this team when they hit the field in 2026; we know that already. But for it to be making an impact off the field this early was not expected.
