Quarterbacks get too much credit when things go right and too much blame when they don’t. That’s football. Fair or not, signal-callers like Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts are judged by wins, playoff success, and statistical output, often without enough context surrounding the talent that is around them. Then again, for Hurts, sometimes, people look at his supporting cast and scream to anyone who will listen that his team would be better without him.
That’s part of what makes FOX Sports’ recent ranking of the NFL’s best supporting casts worth discussing. The Eagles landed fourth on the list. Only the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears ranked higher.
That should spark a couple of interesting conversations. First, regardless of where the A.J. Brown storyline ultimately lands, this ranking serves as a reminder that Jalen Hurts still has plenty to work with. DeVonta Smith remains one of the NFL’s most polished wide receivers. Dallas Goedert is still a proven mismatch when healthy. Saquon Barkley is still one of the best at his position. 2025 was an off-year, and he still outperformed much of the league.
Philadelphia’s offensive line, even after Jeff Stoutland’s departure, remains one of football’s most respected units until proven otherwise. Add intriguing young pieces like Makai Lemon, plus veteran additions designed to deepen the receiver room, and it becomes easier to understand FOX’s reasoning.
This is not an offense lacking weaponry. That matters because Hurts enters another important season with the usual collection of critics waiting to evaluate every throw, every stumble, and every result.
If he plays well, some will point to the talent around him. If he struggles, that same talent will make the criticism louder. That’s how this works. The second takeaway may be just as important as the first, but most probably won't see it that way.

Jalen Hurts and Sean Mannion won't have to undertake a reclamation project alone
