Colorado's 2025-26 basketball season yet again met an end in the first round of the College Basketball Crown, as the team fell to the Oklahoma Sooners.
The season overall went better than the program's first season in the Big 12, with the Buffs improving their overall record to 17-16 (7-11 Big 12). The program has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2024, but has made it six times under head coach Tad Boyle's 16-year tenure.
The program has continued to experience success under Boyle. He boasts a 329-220 overall record, six NCAA Tournament appearances and one Pac-12 tournament title. Still, some fans wonder if the Buffaloes have reached their ceiling with Boyle at the helm.
Boyle's salary reflects the very limited resources he has at his disposal, especially when compared to the other programs in the Big 12. The Colorado head coach makes $2,700,000 per year, according to the recently released USA TODAY database. That salary ranks No. 57 nationally and No. 13 in the 16-team Big 12.
Boyle has one of the most important offseasons of his tenure. The program is tasked with replacing three of its top four players and adding multiple big men to a roster that struggled mightily on the glass a season ago. While Boyle found a star in Barrington Hargress last year, Colorado has been slow to adapt to the changing landscape.
