FIFA said Friday, Aug. 14, it will release the match schedule for next summer's World Cup in Brazil on Thursday, Aug. 20. In addition to announcing which games are at the eight venues for the women's tournament, where host Brazil will play its group-stage matches also will be revealed.
The schedule will be released during the draw for the intercontinental playoff, which will determine the final three countries in the 32-team field.
The World Cup runs June 24 to July 25, 2027, with games played in Belo Horizonte; Brasilia; Fortaleza; Porte Alegre; Recife; Rio de Janeiro; Salvador; and Sao Paulo. Each of the cities also hosted games during the men's tournament in Brazil in 2014.
The matchups for each game will be announced after the main draw, which is expected to be sometime in December. Seventeen teams are already qualified to join Brazil in the 32-team field, including defending champion Spain. The U.S. women's national team, which has won the World Cup four times, can secure its spot during Concacaf's qualifying tournament, which is Nov. 27-Dec. 5 in Texas.
The USWNT opens the eight-team tournament against El Salvador. The four teams that make the semifinals automatically qualify for the World Cup, with the remaining four teams go to a play-in to determine who advances to FIFA's intercontinental playoff.
