Good morning, baseball fans!

Since the San Francisco Giants are still on the road, and we did a temp check last Friday, I thought that we could try something else today.

One of my favorite things about social media is getting to hear great stories from people all over the world. Oftentimes, the comment section on a social media video is the best part (as you all know quite well, because you guys are the best part of this site.)

So today, I want to roll out a new, semi-recurring feature I’m calling “Story Time,” in which I’ll provide a prompt and then I want to hear all of your best stories about the topic.

Today’s topic: What was the worst game you’ve ever been to?

Personally, I could rank about five complete game shut out losses in the last decade that weren’t just bad, but painfully boring. That’s the kind of luck I’ve had, until this year. But I think the worst game I’ve ever been to would have to be in 2011. And it wasn’t even that bad of a game, but let me tell the story anyway.

The owner of the law firm I was working for at the time had season tickets very close to the field. After the 2010 World Series championship, he held a contest for employees to write an essay about what made them become a huge Giants fan. Winners of the contest received his season tickets for a variety of games throughout the season and I happened to be one of them. (Shocking information, me winning a contest that involved writing about the Giants. I know.)

It was April of 2011, and the Atlanta Braves were in town. A young Madison Bumgarner was starting for the Giants.

I was very excited because these were the best seats I’d ever gotten to sit in (and would retain that status until about a month ago). Not only were they close to the field, but they were in the fancy-pants section where you have a separate entrance and concession stands under the stands. I can’t remember what that section is called, but it’s the lower section closer to home plate.

Anyway, like I mentioned, it wasn’t a terrible game. It wasn’t a blowout, and it wasn’t a shutout. It was just…so boring. They gave up four runs to the Braves in the third inning, getting one back much later on a fielder’s choice that scored Pablo Sandoval after he got on base from a wild pitch. Other than that, there was no offense for the Giants at all. They had three hits and went down in order for the majority of the game.

I took my boyfriend at the time, and we were so excruciatingly bored by the fifth inning or so that we were bickering with each other, and we ended up downgrading to a luxury suite that his sister’s company had. It’s not often in life that you get to use the words “downgrading to a luxury suite” but it definitely was just that, after sitting so close to the field. (To see nothing.)

Anyway, a lot of the bad memories from that game were more about personal stuff, but the lack of any offensive effort from the Giants as a distraction certainly didn’t help. And while I’ve been to worse games (as mentioned above about the CGSO’s, and a couple of A’s and Dodgers blowout losses), this one is the worst memories I have at the park. Perhaps because I had hyped up the potential of the experience in my expectations, and reality just didn’t meet them. Or perhaps because that guy was just kind of a jerk anyway. But that’s my story.

What was the worst game you’ve ever been to?
