From the point of view of the Boston Celtics, their 112-96 road win vs. the Toronto Raptors on Saturday (Dec. 20) afternoon was a team win, with not only the club's veteran starters filling in the scoring gaps left by the absence of star forward Jaylen Brown -- waylaid by illness -- but also the bench.
But from the perspective of the coach of the Raptors, Darko Rajakovic, it was not an issue of bad defense or Celtics excellence in general, but more of a win built on the glass for Boston. "I think we did an outstanding job guarding this team," explained the Toronto coach via CLNS Media. "We did an outstanding job. We kept them 30% shooting from the 3-point line."
"That's the first time this season that they won the game where they shot less than 36% from the 3-point line," he added. "I think we made it really hard on them."
"I think that this game was about rebounding," said Rajakovic. "They got 17 offensive rebounds and 23 second-chance points. The game was there -- because of that, we were not able to get stops and run our style of basketball, and we became more of a half-court team and that was really was the problem." "
"I thought that we competed for the big part of the game. We competed really well, but against this type of team and players like (Payton) Pritchard and Derrick White and (Anfernee) Simons— a lot of guys that can create shots on their own and then shoot off the dribble and shoot from every part of the court, not just the 3-point line. They made some timely shots, and we did not."
