LIV Golf’s future currently hangs in the balance.

When the Saudi Public Investment Fund shockingly withdrew support for the league this year, CEO Scott O’Neil was left to scramble for investment. LIV now has until September 1 to secure new backing or risk total collapse.

In recent months, LIV Louisiana was postponed; their feeder series, the Asian Tour, instead partnered with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, and it was reported that the Team Championship finale in Michigan would be canceled.

But while everything appeared to be crumbling, there may be some hope for LIV after all. The tour decided to delay the announcement of LIV Michigan’s cancellation, and there have been rumblings that O’Neil has found investment for 2027 and beyond.

He sent an email to LIV Golf players to address their key concerns.

What Scott O’Neil told LIV players about the future of the tour

Amid the endless rumors and reports, O’Neil reached out to all his LIV Golf players to shed some light on the current state of play.

In this email, reported by Flushing It, he said that new investment is on the way, and the deal should be finalized in late August.

O’Neil wrote: “On the investor front, I remain encouraged by ongoing discussions with potential investors, and we continue to work diligently toward an investment that supports LIV 2.0.

“I don’t have a major milestone to share today, but the process is moving with strong momentum, and we are laser-focused on reaching the finish line. These are complex discussions that take time. We need to move efficiently, but with just as much care and precision.”

He continued, “That said, we’ve also begun the work of planning responsibly for 2027. That means building a competitive calendar around our highest-priority markets, developing a more sustainable event and operating model, prioritizing the commercial opportunities with the greatest potential to drive long-term value, and continuing to deliver a premium experience for our players, partners, and fans.

“Leaders across the business are already at the table on this, and you’ll see them pull your teams in as this work continues. We expect to share details more broadly by late August.

“In the meantime, let’s continue to stay focused on delivering at Bedminster next week and planning for the Individual and Team Championships as we complete a successful 2026 season.”

LIV Golf close to finding new investors

Since O’Neil sent that email, the New York Post reported that LIV is closing in on landing a $250M investment.

The Post said LIV has “multiple written commitments from blue-chip investment firms that would serve as anchor investors to support the league.”

This might sound like a sizeable investment on paper, but when you consider that LIV Michigan’s purse was supposed to be $40 million, a sizeable chunk of the new investment, then you realize that this would merely be a drop in the ocean.

It might be enough to keep the tour running for now, but O’Neil would need to find far more than that if he wants to operate a tour next season.
