It took everyone a bit by surprise: Mats Sundin may return to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But to do what?
That's the question that hasn't been totally answered, but there are some details circulating around.
Regardless of the outcome, it's a fascinating idea.
Sundin was a legendary player for Toronto who is now in the Hall of Fame.
After beginning his career in Quebec, Sundin played 13 years for the Leafs, scoring 420 of his 564 goals for Toronto. He closed out his NHL career with one season in Vancouver.
Sundin is 55 now, and the big Swedish great is potentially coming back to the Maple Leafs.

What is Maple Leafs' plan for Mats Sundin?
The Maple Leafs are considering a "management role" for Sundin, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
"Sportsnet has learned that ownership will meet with the Maple Leafs' all-time leading scorer, Mats Sundin, as soon as Friday about a role in the hockey department," Friedman wrote on Friday. "It’s unclear when the process began, but the ex-captain is in Toronto and has met with MLSE president Keith Pelley at least once. An advisory role — or something along those lines — is being discussed. "
Friedman did say on his 32 Thoughts podcast that a VP of Hockey Operations role wouldn't be out of the question for Sundin.
It sure seems like the Leafs want him around, and it'd make sense for both sides to figure out what gig would be the best fit.
