CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — There’s a good reason Illinois’ brand-new versatile guard Lincoln Williams owns the No. 1 spot in the state’s class of 2026 rankings across both PrepHoops and 247Sports Composite.

Williams is the sixth class of 2026 recruit that the Illini have landed this offseason, with the class as a whole ranked No. 6 in the nation—the highest-rated class Underwood has ever assembled.

“Lincoln is an outstanding in-state player who we have recruited for many years,” said head coach Brad Underwood.

The Illinois native broke multiple scoring records at Kankakee High School, notably becoming their all-time leading scorer and leading them to a 29-2 record. Williams averaged 26 points, three steals and two blocks per game in his senior season.

Lincoln Williams is a freak athlete.

Can jump out of the gym + has long arms at 6'6.

Will be interested to see the improvements in his offensive game during his career.

The length and athleticism will allow him to make an impact.

The 3-star freshman who is listed at 6-foot-5 and weighs in at around 180 pounds will add some explosive firepower alongside Andrej Stojakovic. Stojakovic’s ability to relieve pressure at the rim made a massive difference for the Illinois offense when shots weren’t going down, and now he’ll have Williams to help him do the same.

On top of that, his athleticism could see him become a real pest on defense.

“I’m capable of a lot, you know, defense, rebounding, shooting,” said freshman guard Lincoln Williams. “I think I’m a three-level scorer who can really score the ball, and I take pride in defense. I think defense is fifty percent of the game.”

Williams’ ability to play multiple positions on the perimeter could see him make an instant impact for Illinois. He previously mentioned that he models his game after Terrence Shannon Jr.

Yet another notable addition to Illinois’ freshman class.
