New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell played well in the regular season in 2025 until a shoulder injury toward the end of the year impacted his play and culminated in a poor performance in the Super Bowl, creating questions as to how he will perform in 2026.
According to CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin, the No. 1 question that surrounds Campbell for next season is whether or not he will stick at tackle, with his backslide in 2025 being debatable due to injury or regression.
”He finished dead last out of 81 qualified tackles in pass-blocking grade and allowed 15 pressures in four games,” Dubin said of Campbell’s play once he returned from injury last season. “His short arms meant people were skeptical of his ability to stick at tackle, and the struggles down the stretch exacerbated those concerns.”
Campbell allowed 14 total pressures in the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which he drew criticism for following the defeat.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel affirmed Campbell’s status as the team’s starting left tackle for next season after the loss to Seattle in response to questions regarding his role with the team moving forward. But New England’s selections of heralded swing tackle Caleb Lomu, as well as offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover in the 2026 NFL Draft, give the team much more depth at left tackle for next season.
Campbell will get the benefit of the doubt to protect Patriots quarterback Drake Maye’s blind side to begin the year, but if he strings together enough poor starts, there’s a chance a move will be made, to another position, or even the bench.
