Colombia and Portugal are facing off in a match that will decide the fate of Group K at the 2026 World Cup.
Entering the Saturday, June 27 contest, Colombia is perched atop the group and is positioned to go through as its first-place team with a win or a draw. That said, Portugal has an opportunity to overtake their South American foe and position itself for a round of 32 matchup against Ghana if they wins.
What will be Colombia's fate be? Here's what to know about each scenario for the country, which is already guaranteed a spot in the round of 32.
LIVE: Portugal vs Colombia score, Ronaldo updates and highlights
Colombia would win Group K with a victory over Portugal. Colombia won its first two games over Congo and Uzbekistan, so a victory would make the team just the third at the 2026 World Cup to generate the maximum nine points across its three group stage games, along with Mexico and France.
Colombia has only once before won all three of its group stage games at the World Cup. The country did so in 2014, when James Rodriguez helped lead the team to victories over Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan to qualify atop Group C.
A victory would also set up Colombia for a date with Ghana – who is guaranteed to play the Group K winner – in the round of 32.
Colombia can also advance as the Group K winner with a draw against Portugal. Such a result would give Los Cafeteros seven points across their three group stage games while Portugal would finish second in the group with five points.
And again, this result would lock Colombia into a round of 32 matchup with Ghana.
If Colombia loses to Portugal, then Cristiano Ronaldo's squad would advance atop Group K. That would set Portugal up for a match against Ghana while Colombia would advance out of the group in second place.
The second-place finisher in Group K will play Croatia, which just earned a 2-1 victory over Ghana in its last group stage game.
