Jordan Henderson will miss the rest of the World Cup after breaking his arm in an accidental fall during England's postgame celebrations in Mexico City.
The 36-year-old midfielder slipped while hopping over an advertising board and came down hard trying to brace his fall. Teammates immediately called for medical attention and Henderson was stretchered off in the aftermath of the 3-2 win. He was taken to the hospital and briefly had to stay behind in Mexico as the team returned to base camp in Kansas City.
Henderson underwent surgery and while the former Liverpool captain won't play again in this World Cup, he's staying with the team for its knockout run. A veteran with 91 career appearances for the national team, Henderson was photographed sitting with coaches watching training on Friday.
Henderson became the first England player to appear in four World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026) with an appearance in the group stage in June.
Though he didn't play in England's victory in Mexico City, Henderson received a yellow card for his conduct on the sidelines in the instant-classic.
Henderson spent last season with Brentford following spells in the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia. He played for Liverpool from 2011-2023, winning a Premier League and UEFA Champions League title.
