As I understand, you got a football team Cardinals, baseball Diamondbacks, hockey Coyotes and ofcourse the Suns.

I'm just curious as to how the sports are ranked by importance in Phoenix, meaning, which one is the most popular and which one is the least?

What team is winning?

Right now i'd say it's the yotes

But to try to rank them...

Cardinals - football rules all others right now
Suns - longest tenured major pro team in the valley
Dbacks - only major championship of the top 4
Yotes - to quote zoolander " they are so hot right now"

I concur, just because the NFL is king. But if you asked me or any of the friends I grew up with, the Suns will always be at the top pf the list.

Of course, for many others "Sun Devils" and "Wildcats" would be #1.

Right now, I'd say . . .

The Cardinals -- they have become solid
The D'backs -- as 3 players come off the DL and prospects work their way up
The Coyotes -- will they be consistent in the future?
The Suns -- they need a major makeover to move up

Today?

1) Coyotes (WCF)
2) D'backs (rough start to season)

Suns and Cardinals are in their off-seasons. ;)

Its an interesting conversation ive been thinking about a lot lately. It seems to me like the rankings have definitley changed the last five or so years. Im only 23 so when i was younger my perception may have been clouded but i think five years ago it could have easily been:

1.Suns
2.diamondbacks
3.cardinals
4.coyotes

I agree with the boards general consensus now of:

1.cardinals
2.suns
3.diamondbacks
4.coyotes

Im guessing the reasons for the change are:
1. New suns management that has just completely lost the fanbase. The city still has tons of loyalty to steve nash and what hes done but most fans have completely lost faith in this organization.

2. Baseball i think is just slowly phasing out in general and just doesnt compare to basketball in football IMO.

3. The Cardinals got a new stadium and have since been more commited to putting a winning product on the field. The superbowl season was obviously the most exciting thing ever, and like someone else said, football is king.

The Cardinals could have been much higher on the list for years, but ownership squandered the fans' goodwill the same way Sarver is now. If we see an ownership change or Sarver corrects things, the Suns will pretty easily take top billing back with a deep playoff run, IMO.

I think the Diamondbacks are solid, actually. As an expansion team they unquestionably belong to Phoenix (like the Suns). In the end, though, the occasional throwbacks to the 2001 World Series remind me that the color change was a mistake. My guess is that sometime they'll change back to an updated look.

We'll check in with the Coyotes next year. Attendance spikes tend to happen the year after a successful season, not necessarily during. I don't have a ton of faith in the Coyotes because of the disarray in recent years, the arena location, and the competition in the market. But again, we'll see what happens next year with new ownership and a team with more hope.

As a fan of entirely local teams, a Suns title would mean more to me than all of the other local teams combined. The Suns were my first true love as a sports fan.

But whos games am I least likely to miss?

1. Cardinals
2. Suns
3. Dbacks
4. UofA Football/basketball
5. Coyotes

I do love the Cards, but its pretty easy to catch all of your footballs teams games when they only play 16 games a year and its all on weekends. NFL kinda wins by default.

My list:

1. U of A Basketball
2. Phoenix Suns
3. Arizona Cardinals
4. Arizona Diamondbacks
5. Phoenix Mercury
6. Phoenix Coyotes (I didn't grow up watching Hockey)
7. U of A/ASU Softball. and U of A Football

but agree with general consensus of: Cards, Suns, D'Backs, Yotes - for others.
