The Detroit Tigers traded former No. 1 overall pick and 2025 MLB All-Star Casey Mize to the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline buzzer on Monday, Aug. 3.

So what did the Tigers get back? Two prospects, highlighted by former first-round pick Kash Mayfield, the organization's No. 2 prospect, as well as left-handed pitcher Jackson Wolf. Infielder Gage Workman was also sent to the Padres.

Mayfield, a first-round pick by the Padres in 2024, put up a 3.24 ERA over 114 innings over his two professional seasons in Low-A Lake Elsinore (2025) and High-A Fort Wayne (2026).

Mayfield is a 6-foot-4, 200 pound lefty who won the Gatorade Oklahoma Player of the Year award in both 2023 and 2024.

His fastball sits in the mid-90s, and while he has walked a lot of batters so far in the minors (3.9/nine innings), he also showed a 13.1 K/9 rate in 19 starts in 2025.
