The Minnesota Vikings shocked the NFL world when they selected Florida defensive lineman Caleb Banks with the 18th overall pick in last month's draft. Despite two foot surgeries over the past year, the Vikings were confident that Banks' ailments were behind him and that he could be a potential game-changer on defense.
But not everyone shares Minnesota's optimism. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports ranked every first-round selection in April's draft. He ranked the Vikings' selection of Banks 22nd overall, still questioning Banks' on-field productivity.
"There are concerns about the struggle of Banks' foot, but not about the player and his capabilities," Edwards wrote. "He is a long interior defender who will collapse the pocket in Brian Flores' defense, but he has to do a better job of finishing."
While we'd like to see this pick ranked higher, it's only four spots below where Banks was originally selected. Many experts viewed the pick as "risky", but the Vikings are hoping that their gamble pays off.
Banks didn't practice in the Vikings mini-camp last week, but that aligns with the timeline given after the draft. Minnesota is expecting him to be ready to practice when training camp begins in late July.
