What's the Playoff record for most blocks? Victor Wembanyama flirts with history in Game 1 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The NBA has been blessed with plenty of talented defenders throughout its history. Today, Victor Wembanyama has showcased that he could be the one who could go down as the greatest shot-blocker of all time.

Earlier in the 2026 Playoffs in the San Antonio Spurs' series against the Portland Trail Blazers, Wemby already had a seven-block game. In just the first half of Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he already had eight blocks to his name.

Victor Wembanyama could set the record for most blocks in a Playoff game

Ever since he became the top prospect ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft, Wembanyama has always been known as a shot-blocking extraordinaire. He combines his unreal 7'5" frame with elite defensive instincts and natural talent.

Teams are afraid to enter the paint because they know Wembanyama will most likely block their shots. Many have dared to attack the Spurs' paint, but Wemby continues to prove he is the league's best defender.

Against the Timberwolves in Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinals series, Wembanyama was the standout defender once again. He has always been elite since entering the NBA, but blocking eight shots in one half is absurd.

Moving forward, Wembanyama could be alone in the record books when it comes to the number of blocked shots in a single game. There is a three-way tie atop the ladder with Andrew Bynum, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Mark Eaton tied up at 10 blocks.

With Wembanyama already showing he can block more than half of that in a half, he could shatter that record. Keeping in mind that he is only in his third season and first-ever postseason run, the future is bright for the Frenchman.
