Garrett Crochet made one of his final tune-up appearances in preparation for the 2026 season.

Ten days before his Opening Day assignment, Crochet pitched a minor-league spring game against the Atlanta Braves. The Boston Red Sox ace recorded 12 outs while relinquishing three hits, three walks and a run at Fort Myers, Florida.

Crochet identified one thing that bothered him about Monday's outing, per MassLive's Christopher Smith. While he had no issues with velocity or his breaking pitches, the southpaw wasn't fully harnessing his fastball.

"Just four-seam command," Crochet said. "I feel good with everything else. Ironic that the ones I feel good with are the ones that are moving, but the one that is going straight is the one that’s the toughest to locate. But I feel like that’s the main thing. I just get frustrated with four-seam command. Located some well top of the zone just above the zone that didn’t induce swings, but I feel good about those."

Crochet's four-seamer was his least effective offering last season. The heater induced a .352 weighted on-base average (wOBA) against, but he netted a wOBA below .300 on his cutter (.294), sinker (.254) and sweeper (.152).

Although Crochet's four-seamer surrendered 13 home runs, Red Sox fans shouldn't fret much over those results. The pitch, which he fired at an average velocity of 96.4 mph, generated a healthier .304 expected wOBA with a 30.2 percent whiff rate.

Crochet will have another chance to refine his fastball when making his last Grapefruit League appearance this Saturday. He's then in line to take the mound at Great American Ball Park on Thursday, March 26, for an Opening Day matchup with the Cincinnati Reds.
