CARMEL — Westview junior Luke Haarer is near the middle of the pack after the first day of action at the Indiana High School Athletic Association boys golf state finals Tuesday.
Haarer, who is making his first trip to the state match since qualifying his freshman year, shot an 8-over-par 80 through the first 18 holes of the two-day competition. He is currently tied for 56th place.
The junior was even through his first seven holes, splitting a bogey and a birdie on Holes 4 and 5, respectively. After bogeying his final two holes of the front stretch, Haarer would bogey six more holes on the back end, finishing eight strokes over.
Center Grove sophomore Drew Carlson, Castle freshman Alexander Cook and Westfield senior Hudson Kutchma are all tied in first after Day 1. Carlson, Cook and Kutchma each shot 4-under-par for a score of 68. Bloomington South’s Colton Watson (-1) is the only other golfer under-par after the first day of action. Two others are even.
Haarer’s tee time for Wednesday is 7:50 a.m. on Hole 10 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
