My conversation with Jedd Fisch, the Univesity of Washington coach who saw two more players drafted to the 49ers.

On Fisch’s strong ties to both Shanahan and Lynch — the connections go deeper than you think — and his talent pipeline to SF: https://t.co/D0dVGNAm5W

  • The Big Ten had meetings this week and among the discussions were about governing of college sports. UW AD Pat Chun said of whether to expect help from the federal government: “I am also in the camp that is not expecting help from D.C.,” said Chun, who has spent time on Capitol Hill. “Because there comes a point where, after all these years, you just can’t expect it.” So one of the ideas discussed was to have the Big Ten govern itself according to this article.
  • Another topic of discussion was the CFP. Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti spoke with reporters and said “We’ve had zero conversation about 16,” he said. “Plan B is what we have now. We would stay with what we have now.” Petetti laid out the reasons that he is for a 24 team playoff and not 16 teams. “I just don’t think it works economically,” he said. “I don’t think it works schedulingwise as well. I think it doesn’t create enough new inventory. And then the last piece, I don’t think it gets enough access.”
Big Ten COO Kerry Kenny says that the Big Ten ran the numbers and 80 different college football programs would have reached the College Football Playoff if there’d been a 24-team format if you go back to 2014.
