PEARL — A rain delay has been issued during the Mississippi high school baseball championships.
The MHSAA announced a rain delay because of heavy rain and lightning around the area at Trustmark Park in Pearl on May 20.
According to the Weather Channel, there is a 92% of rain at 3 p.m., which is supposed to last for the next two hours. Lightning and thunder are currently surrounding the area.
The rain arrived during Game 2 of the MHSAA 6A title game between Pearl River Central vs. Salitllo during the top of the sixth inning. Pearl River Central led 3-1 at the time of the stoppage. Pearl River Central leads the series 1-0 after a 12-11 win on May 19.
The MHSAA announced the weather delay will last until either 9 or 9:30 p.m. in hopes of finishing the delayed game and starting Game 1 of Presbyterian Christian vs. Booneville.
West Union was able to get through its game, beating Taylorsville in the 1A title, which started at 10 a.m. West Union won 8-3.
Two games were scheduled for later on May 20, with Game 1 between Presbyterian Christian and Booneville at 4 p.m., and Game 2 between Mooreville and Poplarville at 7 p.m.
Trustmark Park installed infield turf this year, but the outfield grass has standing rain in multiple spots.
