I think we should say this when we win the coin-toss.

I like the idea of unleashing the Cardinal Defense to start the game; expect good things, like a three-and-out or a quick turn-over from a half-warm, nervous opponent.

Then Kurt and the Red Birds begin with good field position and without the ice that comes with the "first" plays of the game.

Play it right with a final clock-eating drive to end the first half.

The best part is we get the ball first to begin the 2nd half after the Offense has been runnng hard for a half and had a few minutes to take a blow and talk about how to blow the game open when they go back on the field...

Do this and we win time of possession battle, and probably the game.

Yea, it goes against the conventional wisdom.

I will say I have watched this team for a lot of years. I think they do a lot better in the third quarter than the first.

It seems to me MOST teams go three-and-out with that first possession of the game...but NOT the first possession of the 2nd half.

Our Defense should be the strength of this team, it can't be too much of a mistake to let them attack a Offense that has a few butterflies...or rookies.

You're right Maddog, but do they allow defferment in the NFL? I know I played in HS, we always deferred if we won the toss. You'd think if it was available in the NFL, more teams would do it.

Are there any e-psychologists on the board? I think Spank is going into full on melt down mode today.

You really have it in for me today, huh? But - like almost every other post you've written, once again - you are WRONG.

With our D I'd much rather see them out there first in certain situations - especially not knowing what we have on offense this year. I also loved watching our D play and anytime you can get a stop on the first possession (which this D can) you're already setting yourself in the battle of field position.

But - you're dead on as usual Spank!

I happen to agree with, if given the option, recieving the ball at the start of the second half. The initial opening drive of any team is bound to be it's rustiest, so by having the ball in the opening plays of the second half a team can either tie it up, chisel away at a lead, or increase their own lead.

Or something.
Just a gut thing is all.

The second half is more important then the first. Also the teams are nervous & jumpy in the beginning of the game.

Give me the ball first thing in the second half to either take the lead or add to my lead. I LOVE it!

How about this? We win the toss,receive, march right down the field with a 12 play 9 minute drive and score a td. Then we kick off and on 3rd and long Berry blindsides Manning , Dansby scoops up a loose ball and scampers 31 yards for a quick 14 zip lead.
The remainder of the game is spent pummeling Manning and the Giants into submission.

Let me add...........kick off if we win the toss? What, have you gone mad?

Kick off and on the the first play of the year eli trys to go deep to Plaxico but Antrel Rolle is their for the int and returns for a cards TD.
