Watkins ‘very privileged’ after scoring 100th goal for Villa to help his side into Europa League semis

Ollie Watkins says scoring his 100th goal for Aston Villa to help fire the club into the Europa League semi-finals is an amazing feeling.

Villa thrashed Bologna 4-0 at Villa Park thanks to goals from Watkins, Emi Buendia, Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa to give them a 7-1 aggregate win.

Watkins’ goal was his 100th in a Villa shirt and speaking after the game, the striker said: “It’s a lovely feeling, a great milestone to hit.

“Very privileged to be out here and score so many goals for this club. It’s amazing, a great achievement and one I’ll definitely cherish.

“I’ve still got friends I was playing with at Weston-super-Mare and Exeter City, and I’ve come a long way.

“I just embrace it now and try to enjoy it, rather than put a lot of pressure on myself. I’ve come a long way, so embrace it and take it all in.

“It’s an amazing achievement to get to a semi-final, and if someone had said to me two or three years ago we would be fighting for Champions League and in the semi-finals of the Europa League, I would have bitten their hand off.”
