Texas Rangers designated hitter Wyatt Langford (36) runs after hitting a single during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field, Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Arlington. Texas Rangers Alejandro Osuna (19) scored on a single hit by Langford and won the game 7-6. (Chitose Suzuki/The Dallas Morning News)
For the first time since Ezequiel Duran's walk-off hit against the Royals in late May and third time this season, Globe Life Field erupted in celebration of a Rangers walk-off win.
The Rangers, despite holding a 6-1 lead over the lowly Angels at one point, suddenly found themselves in a 6-6 tie in the late innings after Los Angeles hung a crooked number in the seventh inning. All-Star closer Jacob Latz and Cole Winn held things together in the eighth and ninth innings, giving Texas its chance to walk things off and clinch a key series win.
Facing former Rangers All-Star reliever Kirby Yates, Alejandro Osuna led the bottom of the ninth off with a single and Nicky Lopez laid down a perfect bunt to move Osuna to into scoring position. That set the table for Wyatt Langford, who was in his first game back from a stint on the injured list. Langford ripped Yates' 1-1 fastball over the left fielder's head and off the outfield wall, which was more than enough for Osuna to score the winning run.
The win moved the Rangers to 47-46 on the season and, thanks to the Mariners' loss to the Marlins, into first place in the American League West. It also saved Texas from a deflating series loss ahead of a massively important weekend series against the Astros.
