The Minnesota Vikings could not wait to battle again on the gridiron and aim for a better finish than their 9-8 record last season, which saw them miss the playoffs for the second time in three years.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said their fans will play a huge part in the upcoming season. On Sunday, Minnesota held its annual night practice, which was open to the public. Many trooped to Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center to show their support.

He expressed his gratitude to their fans for giving the Vikings a boost amid their training camp.

“You guys have brought so much energy. These guys (players) feel you. You got to understand, they feel you when you’re here. They feel that we’ve got the best fans in the National Football League. It’s not close,” said O’Connell.

“We’ve thrown a lot at these guys in the first two weeks of camp. It kind of culminates with us now changing our mindset to go think about playing somebody else. These guys are about ready for it. I can tell.”

The 41-year-old O’Connell, who was named Coach of the Year in 2024, added that they are already looking forward to Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers and starting the new season on an impressive note, which their fans deserve.

“Here’s what I know. We are preparing for that opening game to open up US Bank Stadium in front of the best fans in the NFL, and we need to do it in a way that makes you proud. We’ve got to protect our home,” added the fourth-year coach.

He has yet to name their starting quarterback, stressing that the tight competition between JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray is a good problem to have.

O’Connell is quite confident about their preparation, and he will continue to set the tone for everyone heading into the new season.
