It's the call every football player dreams of receiving.
Going into draft night all signs pointed toward Miami's Cam Ward being selected No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that did little to diminish the moment Ward fielded the all-important call from Tennessee Titans GM Mike Borgonzi on April 24.
"As we went through this whole process here, I can't tell you how impressed we've been with you," Borgonzi told Ward over the phone. "Not only the player, but the person that you are. The leader that you are. And we couldn't think of anyone more deserving to be this No. 1 pick here and to represent this franchise."
"I'm ready," Ward said to Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk when asked how he feels, after becoming the Titans first No. 1 overall draft pick since Earl Campbell in 1978.
Ward topped the Titans' draft board after a standout season at quarterback for Miami, where he was named a Heisman finalist while winning the Davey O'Brien and Manning Awards, given to the best quarterback in college football.
"Welcome to the Titans and welcome to Tennessee," Adams Strunk told Ward. "Everybody's so excited."
The 2025 NFL Draft will be held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The first round will begin at 7 p.m. CT on April 24, with Rounds 2-3 beginning at 6 p.m. CT on April 25. Rounds 4-7 begin at 11 a.m. CT on April 26.
