New England Patriots rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu showed up ahead of rookie minicamp on Thursday.
Lomu was selected with the No. 28 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Patriots traded up three spots with the Buffalo Bills to get him near the end of the first round. That kind of aggressive move alone is proof enough of how highly the team views him.
He'll be joining an offensive line undergoing a transformation this year. The team signed veteran guard Alijah Vera-Tucker to play on the left side, while Jared Wilson is expected to move to his natural position at center. Lomu is a swing tackle with the ability to play on both sides of the line.
However, it is believed that he will compete with 35-year-old Morgan Moses for the right tackle job.
Along with Lomu, the Patriots also drafted Dametrious Crownover in the sixth round. Both players should find opportunities to contribute—or at the very least, provide considerable offensive line depth—right out of the gate.
