The Savannah Bananas bring outsized showmanship and energy to their fun, entertaining baseball. Based on that description, Bill Belichick is probably one of the last people fans would have expected to participate in the exhibition.

The Bananas traveled to Chapel Hill to host a game against the Texas Tailgaters at Kenan Stadium on Saturday. To the delight of a sold-out crowd, the North Carolina football head coach made a surprise appearance.

Wearing a Bananas cutoff hoodie, Belichick enthusiastically dapped up the catcher and batter and waved his cap to the fans. The Bananas put the New England Patriots legend to work as a first-base coach.

The Bananas hitter lined out to the opposing second baseman, who threw to first base to complete a double play. However, Belichick felt the runner dived back in time.

After signaling safe to the umpire, Belichick removed a yellow flag from his pocket and threw it on the field. His challenge succeeded, as they overturned the call.

Belichick reacted with more excitement than he typically displayed on New England's sideline, triumphantly raising his fist and directing the Bananas baserunner to return to first base. The six-time Super Bowl champion then exited to handshakes from the Tailgaters.

Bet you didn't have Bill Belichick and the Savannah Bananas on your 2026 bingo card.

Patriots fans may have a hard time imagining Belichick making this type of light-hearted cameo during his NFL career, especially without telling any of the players to do their job. Perhaps the 73-year-old can use a boost to his public image after the Tar Heels went 4-8 in his first season.
