Well, that was quick!
Amelia White scored a goal in 22 seconds for the Kansas City Current in the match against Gotham FC on Friday, Aug. 14 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey.
Croix Bethune kicked the ball from midfield all the way down to White in front of the net. White dribbled forward and smacked the ball across her body with her left foot. The ball bounced over Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and swished into the right side of the net.
Gotham FC answered with two goals in the first half, one each from Midge Purce and Sam Kerr, and won the game 2-1.
The first-minute goal ties the fastest score in NWSL history. White's Current teammate Michelle Cooper also scored in 22 seconds in a match against the Washington Spirit in June 2023, when Cooper was a rookie.
Friday's strike was White's second goal of the season. She also scored in Kansas City's 5-1 victory over Racing Louisville in July.
The Current are home to two-time NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga, who boosted her home country of Malawi to its first World Cup qualification earlier this month. Chawinga did not play in Friday's match due to her participation in the WAFCON tournament.
