Jaylen Brown has made the switch. He was a Boston icon when he played alongside Jayson Tatum with the Celtics, but those days are in the past. Brown was traded by the Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers and he made his debut with his new team Thursday as he met the media.

After answering questions from reporters, he made the trip to Citizens Bank Park and threw out the first pitch as the Philadelphia Phillies hosted the Washington Nationals. Brown stepped to the mound with confidence, tossing the ball up and down before he threw from the grass in front of the mound. Brown looked like an athlete as he prepared to release the ball, but he did not display a fast ball. He blooped in a soft toss that did make it over the plate.

Philadelphia fans might have booed the throw if it wasn’t his introduction to the city. Brown and LeBron James are the big additions to the 76ers this summer. Many are anticipating that Sixers will have something of a super team this season and they will be able to push past the NBA champion New York Knicks. The Knicks swept past the Sixers in the second round of last spring’s NBA playoffs.

Brown has played 10 years in the NBA since being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 Draft out of California. Brown is a 5-time NBA All-Star and a 2-time All-NBA player. He was part of the 2024 NBA champion Celtics and he won the Most Valuable Player Award in that 5-game triumph over the Dallas Mavericks in that series.
