During her junior season with the Washington Huskies, star guard Sayvia Sellers asserted herself as one of the best players in the nation.

The product of Anchorage, Alaska, was named to the All-Big Ten First Team after averaging 19.2 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game during the regular season, and now, she's in the mix for national honors. On Wednesday afternoon, she found herself on the short list to be named an All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

"You know, really, what we wanted to honor about Sayvia is who she is as a person," coach Tina Langley said of Sellers in late February after she was named to the Naismith Late Season Team. "She's obviously a tremendous player, but as a leader, she comes in every day, and you just don't know. You don't know she's that good from talking with her. And so it's a great example."

Washington's top scorer is the first Husky to make it onto the WBCA All-Region Team since the 2016-17 season, when Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor were both on the list. She'd also be UW's first All-American since Plum's final year on Montlake before she was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 WNBA draft.

Sellers is also one of eight Big Ten players who found their names on the short-list, alongside UCLA's Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice, Michigan's Olivia Olson and Syla Swords, Iowa's Hannah Stuelke, Maryland's Oluchi Okananwa, and Ohio State's Jaloni Cambridge.

With Sellers leading the charge, the No. 6-seeded Huskies are set to face off with the No. 11-seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the NCAA Tournament on Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. PT.
